For Fall 2022 Portfolio
In May of 2022, I co-presented "LGBTQIA2S+ Foundations Training in Canvas: Share Out, Tips, and Discussion" during the annual CCC LGBTQ+ Summit, titled: “Unapologetic - Fighting for the Liberation of Queer, Transgender and Non-Binary Students.” Our first session corralled about 50 attendees.
Led 50% of the synchronous Spring 2022 LISs:
Second highest # of student one-on-one research consultations:
From March 13, 2020 through May 2022,
I taught 31/110 of the remote LISs, so 28.3%, though I represent 12.5% of the total # of librarians.

Fall 2022
One of
the library's primary objectives is to support courses offered on campus
by providing supplemental resources that enrich the student learning
experience. The acquisitions department works to ensure that these resources
are available for students. In my role as the acquisitions librarian, I have a
variety of duties, including: instructing students; procuring resources;
fielding reference desk queries; participating in committee work; developing
collections; leading the acquisitions team; collaborating with colleagues to
create student learning objectives and activities; offering
guidance-on-the-side-ance in one-on-research consultations; co-facilitating FC’s
Queer Social Hour; co-steering
FCL's Queer Book Club
discussions; and developing/implementing outreach. I teach a library tech class
during the summer, and I lead general and tailored library instruction sessions
for courses such as: history, psychology, administration of justice,
counseling, English, chemistry, and speech.
I’ve been involved in
professional knowledge-sharing throughout my career as a librarian. Most
recently, in May of 2022, I co-presented "LGBTQIA2S+ Foundations Training
in Canvas: Share Out, Tips, and Discussion" during the annual CCC LGBTQ+
Summit, titled: “Unapologetic- Fighting for the Liberation of Queer,
Transgender and Non-Binary Students.” Our first session corralled about 50
attendees.
Further, I regularly co-present
for flex day (e.g., spring 2021, fall 2021); I penned a presentation proposal for FC’s spring 2022 flex day,
but the application was rejected, due to timing (better to wait for the spring).
In 2019, in my role as a librarian and as co-chair of Q&A: Queer Straight
Alliance (an LGBTQIA+ United Faculty subcommittee), I was pleased to bring a GLAAD
presenter to campus to help with supporting and better understanding our
dynamic, diverse transgender, non-binary, and gender-nonconforming community at
Fullerton College. In 2019, I also reported back to the full-time librarians and adjunct librarians after the American Library Association
conference with a written report. During the summers of 2017 and 2018, the
support of the library dean allowed me to plan/implement new librarian/adjunct
training days, which also allowed me to share professional knowledge. Further,
I annually support the library outreach initiative for KinderCaminata via
planning/presenting (’21, ’22).
In 2022, conference material will again be shared at a
librarians’ meeting & in a LibGuide. I will also share relevant information
with library staff members. Note: The librarians continue to use the knowledge
gained at library conferences to maintain and develop the library: 1)
collections; 2) outreach; 3) programs; 4) technology; and 5) classes.
Unapologetic- Fighting for the
Liberation of Queer, Transgender and Non-Binary Students
From 2/25/2021 librarian meeting notes:
- The Queer Book Club is reading The Essential Dykes to Watch Out For. The February meeting was well-attended.
- The weekly LGBTQIA+ Social Hour (Tuesdays, 4-5pm) continues to have steady participation.
- The Queer Resource Center Planning Committee met 2/23/2021, progress has been slowed by the pandemic.
- A related cause/meeting -- trying to secure funding and to plan for an LGBTQIA+ Liaison, QRC staff, and program coordinator -- will be March 9th 3-5pm.
- QPOC is restarting, under the leadership of Agadette Solis.
- Worked with Mike and Amanda to create a video for KinderCaminata.

Contributing to goals, inc.
Library Space Management (Wayfinding?) (Monique + whoever would like to help)
Goal: Identify wayfinding opportunities; assist students in discovering resources.
Student Staff (Jane) & Adjunct Mentorship (Monique/Jill)
Adjunct Mentorship Goal: To provide adjunct librarians with: 1) skill-building opportunities, 2) a trusted ally to effect change, 3) proper training, and 4) projects that match with interests/skillset.
Currently: Librarians who mentor (Jill, Monique) -- regularly check in, e.g., to see how adjuncts’ skills apply to our projects. For example, the adjunct who teaches the LIB100 summer class has access to FT librarian knowledge.
Currently: Student staff have the opportunity to contribute to the library social media presence.
Suggestion: Student staff run a TikTok and Snap media presence?
Failure would be: Not training or mentoring our adjuncts & student workers.
Reference
Goal: Increase use of library services; for example, via easily-accessed video chat links.
Website (everything excluding LibGuides)
Goal: Increase discoverability by responding to use patterns.
Support Queer Students (Monique)
Goal: Maintain involvement in campus outreach, so that LGBTQIA+ students are aware that the library offers social engagement opportunities for queer students.

If you have library books due during this time please do not come to campus to return them. The library will forgive all fines accrued on books due during this uncertain time. Dec 01 2022, 11:52AM | Q: Hello Note: moved to zoom, worked together for @ 50 mins A: Anon 11:01:08 AM: Hello 11:01:31 AM: hi, this is the librarian, how can i help you? Anon 11:02:06 AM: I need help finding resources for an essay I'm writing on Yellowstone and the dangers that the environment faces 11:03:45 AM: Thank you for your question. I would like to inquire as to what searching you have done up until this point. That is to say, what roads have ended in success or failure in terms of searching, thus far? For example, I am interested in which databases you've tried, books you've found (or not), keywords that are working or not working. It’s fine if you are just at the starting point, but it helps us to know where you are as we begin to work with you. Yellowstone info will be in our databases, but government sources (.gov) can expand your search further, too. 11:09:46 AM: hi, so since we're talking on the other chat (you and me), can i close this window? Anon 11:12:34 AM: It is telling me that I've been disconnected 11:13:47 AM: hi, so we're talking in the other window, no? Anon 11:14:44 AM: Yes But it isn't not allowing me to send anything anymore 11:15:29 AM: weird, ok, then we can talk here. were you able to enter the search in the 3 boxes? Anon 11:15:51 AM: Yes I was it gives me a lot of results for flooding 11:16:14 AM: https://www.usgs.gov/observatories/yvo/news/real-hazards-yellowstone this one has multiple causes of concern Anon 11:17:51 AM: Mmm I agree, but im looking for problems caused by human influence or tourism For example one of my problems I put snowmobiling because it contributed to the climate change in the park From the machine's gas emissions 11:19:53 AM: there's some issues noted in a PDF, maybe we can peel out some keywords, and find these issues in the databases, e.g., development: "They are sensitive to pressures from land and water development by humans, and to the effects of pollution." https://www.fws.gov/wetlands/Documents%5CWetland-Resources-of-Yellowstone-National-Park.pdf this is interesting: https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/65/wr/mm6511a5.htm " Educating visitors about wildlife behavior and the need to maintain distances of 75–300 ft (23–91 m) from wildlife for safety of persons and wildlife is critical. " going back to the databases, did you use the advanced search function? Anon 11:22:11 AM: Do you mean google or the Fullerton library? 11:22:26 AM: FC Library Anon 11:22:55 AM: I did not Just the basic search bar 11:23:38 AM: huh, i don't see a way to send a screenshot now weird Anon 11:24:02 AM: What are you using? A phone? 11:24:16 AM: 1. Go to: library.fullcoll.edu 2. Type your search terms in the OneSearch search box (@ the middle/top right-hand side of the webpage). Your search terms might be: comedy movie audience 3. Click Search. 4. You might next select the "Advanced Search" option at the top of the results page. 5. In the dropdown menu that reads "Select a Field (optional)," select "AB Abstract," to search for your keywords to be in the description of the article. ("TX All Text" searches the entire text of the article, which retrieves more results. 6. On the left-hand side click "Scholarly (Peer-Reviewed) Journals," if you'd like. From the databases tab on our homepage, you might also want to explore Statista and NexisUni, too. your search terms might be snowmobil* and yellowstone Did you know about using the asterisk * to truncate your search term? The asterisk represents anything that falls after the last letter (or nothing after the last letter), e.g., snowmobil* -- retrieves snowmobiling, snowmobiles, etc. Anon 11:26:00 AM: I was not aware, thank you for the information 11:26:30 AM: I'm searching it using the "TI Title" option and i like those results Anon 11:27:00 AM: What does TI Title mean ? 11:27:12 AM: In our other convo, I could send screen shots, but I can't here. : / Anon 11:27:28 AM: Mmm okay Would you feel better with zoom? 11:27:37 AM: In the dropdown menu, select TI Title to search the title of the article for your words. it usually isn't a good way to find articles, but it works well in this case. Anon 11:28:36 AM: Can you see images I send you? 11:29:43 AM: You can try! : ) Anon 11:29:59 AM: I did I don't think it goes through unfortunately 11:31:45 AM: okey. how is the title search for: snowmobil* and yellowstone -- going? Anon 11:32:41 AM: I got one result I'm not sure if I'm doing it correctly 11:33:09 AM: here's a page a created with some info for this question: https://fullcoll.libguides.com/c.php?g=1019285&p=7549289 Anon 11:33:45 AM: Thank you Are you still available for zoom? 11:34:14 AM: sure! Anon 11:34:54 AM: Do you have a meeting I can join? 11:35:41 AM: Join Zoom Meeting https://fullcoll-edu.zoom.us/j/87921392025?pwd=KzVkM09HWVhkbXFUS2RCbHNVUTFqZz09 Meeting ID: 879 2139 2025 Passcode: 710682 11:43:59 AM: Robert B. Guest16178291: I believe so Guest16178291: Are you the one I emailed or texted? Monique Delatte: Thank you for your question. Guest16178291: I've used the Fullerton College Library Onesearch and I have gotten some successful results, but most lead to not enough information. Guest16178291: I used keywords such as "Yellowstone" "ecotourism" "tourism" "environmental dangers" "human influence" Monique Delatte: Please try to stay on chat even if there is a delay in reply. [This is an automatic note.] Monique Delatte: do you want to discuss this using screenshots or with a zoom mtg? Guest16178291: screenshots would be fine if that's okay with you Guest16178291: I need to find three dangers that Yellowstone faces. I've found some good sources for climate change, but I am struggling for the last two. Monique Delatte: Attached a file: https://askus.library.fullcoll.edu/chat_file.php?i=1393&f=415867&preview=true Monique Delatte: let Monique Delatte: oops Monique Delatte: let's start with an advanced search in google Guest16178291: Got it Monique Delatte: Attached a file: https://askus.library.fullcoll.edu/chat_file.php?i=1393&f=415874&preview=true Guest16178291: is that all I need to fill in? Guest16178291: I have not used to advanced google search option before Monique Delatte: try that search Monique Delatte: did you see the first screenshot? Monique Delatte: just type "advanced search" into google. Monique Delatte: then, in advanced search, fill in those 3 boxes Monique Delatte: are you seeing a disconnected message, still?
