Tenured Faculty e-Portfolio

A Few of My Favorite Accomplishments this Year
  • Outreach to FC Tech & Engineering & Art Departments to Help w/ Online Learning
    • In 2019, I reached out to my T&E contacts to ask about/plan for the department meeting, then I asked friend and colleague, Tim Ream (systems librarian), to co-present with me. Tim and I inquired about the departmental needs. Then, Tim and I worked to find the resources that the T&E folks requested.
    • 2020, due to COVID-19: Tim and I amped up our division outreach, inc. a T&E Zoom meeting, to secure e-resources for instructors. As e-resources are pricey, the challenge has been to work with the: department deans, the vendors, the faculty across a variety of subject areas (ranging from art to automotive), and the other librarians -- to help instructors to secure the necessary resources ASAP. The job was quite time-consuming, e.g., getting pricing from vendors who insist on giving a product presentation first. The faculty, staff, and dean in T&E expressed gratitude for our help.
    • I noticed ARTstor was offering free access, in light of COVID-19, so I asked Tim to add ARTstor to JSTOR. Then, Tim and I promoted ARTstor to our art dept. contacts. They've been greatly appreciative!
      • Carol's response to news of free ARTstor access 'til 6/21
Klutch's reaction to email re: free ARTstor access 'til 6/21
  • Wayfinding Committee & Queer Book Club Push to Remove Plummer Portrait
    • Coordinated with the FCL Queer Book Club and Wayfinding Committee, as well as the FC Diversity Committee, to advocate for the removal of the Plummer portrait. Because I pushed to start this process along with my supportive campus contacts (including the library dean : ) -- later, when a high school student spoke with the local news about the Plummer legacy -- our admin was able to state to the press that the process of approving the removal of the Plummer portrait was complete.

Meeting of NOCCCD Board of Trustees, 6.23.2020

  • Listened to My Gut, Reported a Student Behavior Concern to Dean, Communicated the Issue to Colleagues to See if there Was Overlap, Documented the Interactions for Campus Safety/BIT
    • I felt that a student behavior needed to be documented. Wrote to dean that day. The issue arose again the next day. I asked the student of concern for details. The student sent evidence of a concerning interaction; I replied to the student with contact info for the mental health center. I discussed again with dean. We contacted BIT and the impacted department leads -- to act proactively investigate the issue. Investigation uncovered that the student was responsible for roughly half of the campus chats, and intervention began. The student's behavior is now being tracked & appropriate authorities are involved.
  • Collaborating on Development of Library Instruction Outreach Tools for Students
    • Working with PT and FT librarians to offer alternate options to appeal to different learning styles, including offering Badgr badges and gaming-style workshops.
