For Fall 2022 Portfolio

In May of 2022, I co-presented "LGBTQIA2S+ Foundations Training in Canvas: Share Out, Tips, and Discussion" during the annual CCC LGBTQ+ Summit, titled: “Unapologetic - Fighting for the Liberation of Queer, Transgender and Non-Binary Students.” Our first session corralled about 50 attendees.

Led 50% of the synchronous Spring 2022 LISs:

From March 13, 2020 through May 2022,

I taught 31/110 of the remote LISs, so 28.3%, though I represent 12.5% of the total # of librarians.

Zoom Library Presentations for Colleagues:

A Few of my Zoom Library Workshops:

A Few of my Zoom Library Instruction Sessions:

The librarians cut the periodicals budget, due to belt-tightening and decreasing use of serials.
We sliced-and-diced the serials budget by 62% in December (after much consideration/deliberation).

One of the library's primary objectives is to support courses offered on campus by providing supplemental resources that enrich the student learning experience. The acquisitions department works to ensure that these resources are available for students. In my role as the acquisitions librarian, I have a variety of duties, including: instructing students; procuring resources; fielding reference desk queries; participating in committee work; developing collections; leading the acquisitions team; collaborating with colleagues to create student learning objectives and activities; offering guidance-on-the-side-ance in one-on-research consultations; co-facilitating FC’s Queer Social Hour; co-steering FCL's Queer Book Club discussions; and developing/implementing outreach. I teach a library tech class during the summer, and I lead general and tailored library instruction sessions for courses such as: history, psychology, administration of justice, counseling, English, chemistry, and speech.

I’ve been involved in professional knowledge-sharing throughout my career as a librarian. Most recently, in May of 2022, I co-presented "LGBTQIA2S+ Foundations Training in Canvas: Share Out, Tips, and Discussion" during the annual CCC LGBTQ+ Summit, titled: “Unapologetic- Fighting for the Liberation of Queer, Transgender and Non-Binary Students.” Our first session corralled about 50 attendees.

Further, I regularly co-present for flex day (e.g., spring 2021, fall 2021); I penned a presentation proposal for FC’s spring 2022 flex day, but the application was rejected, due to timing (better to wait for the spring). In 2019, in my role as a librarian and as co-chair of Q&A: Queer Straight Alliance (an LGBTQIA+ United Faculty subcommittee), I was pleased to bring a GLAAD presenter to campus to help with supporting and better understanding our dynamic, diverse transgender, non-binary, and gender-nonconforming community at Fullerton College. In 2019, I also reported back to the full-time librarians and adjunct librarians after the American Library Association conference with a written report. During the summers of 2017 and 2018, the support of the library dean allowed me to plan/implement new librarian/adjunct training days, which also allowed me to share professional knowledge. Further, I annually support the library outreach initiative for KinderCaminata via planning/presenting (’21, ’22).

In 2022, conference material will again be shared at a librarians’ meeting & in a LibGuide. I will also share relevant information with library staff members. Note: The librarians continue to use the knowledge gained at library conferences to maintain and develop the library: 1) collections; 2) outreach; 3) programs; 4) technology; and 5) classes.

Unapologetic- Fighting for the Liberation of Queer, Transgender and Non-Binary Students

From 2/25/2021 librarian meeting notes:

  • The Queer Book Club is reading The Essential Dykes to Watch Out For. The February meeting was well-attended.
  • The weekly LGBTQIA+ Social Hour (Tuesdays, 4-5pm) continues to have steady participation.
  • The Queer Resource Center Planning Committee met 2/23/2021, progress has been slowed by the pandemic.
  • A related cause/meeting -- trying to secure funding and to plan for an LGBTQIA+ Liaison, QRC staff, and program coordinator -- will be March 9th 3-5pm.
  • QPOC is restarting, under the leadership of Agadette Solis.
  • Worked with Mike and Amanda to create a video for KinderCaminata.

Contributing to goals, inc.

Library Space Management (Wayfinding?) (Monique + whoever would like to help)

Goal: Identify wayfinding opportunities; assist students in discovering resources.

Student Staff (Jane) & Adjunct Mentorship (Monique/Jill)

Adjunct Mentorship Goal: To provide adjunct librarians with: 1) skill-building opportunities, 2) a trusted ally to effect change, 3) proper training, and 4) projects that match with interests/skillset.

Currently: Librarians who mentor (Jill, Monique) -- regularly check in, e.g., to see how adjuncts’ skills apply to our projects. For example, the adjunct who teaches the LIB100 summer class has access to FT librarian knowledge.

Currently: Student staff have the opportunity to contribute to the library social media presence.

Suggestion: Student staff run a TikTok and Snap media presence?

Failure would be: Not training or mentoring our adjuncts & student workers.

Reference

Goal:  Increase use of library services; for example, via easily-accessed video chat links.

Website (everything excluding LibGuides)

Goal: Increase discoverability by responding to use patterns.

Support Queer Students (Monique)

Goal: Maintain involvement in campus outreach, so that LGBTQIA+ students are aware that the library offers social engagement opportunities for queer students.
